The Glossary
Every Mixtape word on one page. One line each, no forward references, no jargon.
- Age Band
- A range (10-12, 13-15, or 16+) a parent sets that adjusts reading level and daily workload.
- Album
- The bundle of finished work the app drafts when a sprint closes, which your kid curates and can seal.
- Beats
- The BPM ingredient that tracks how consistently your kid is showing up.
- BPM
- Balanced Progress Metric, a 0-100 rhythm reading for the week made of Beats, Progress, Moments, and Mix — not a grade.
- CER
- Claim-Evidence-Reasoning, the three-part scaffold behind every reflection: what you think, what backs it up, and why.
- Choice Pool
- A menu of 2-4 candidate missions a parent loads; the kid picks which one comes next.
- Evidence
- The work samples, reflections, and artifacts collected as proof of learning in the Portfolio tab.
- Family Learning Studio
- The parent dashboard on the web where you see BPM, sprint status, skills, and the portfolio.
- Flip the Beat
- An optional step where your kid argues the side they don't agree with, for extra credit and practice.
- Grace Day
- One of two free passes per week that protect a streak when a day gets missed.
- Hint Ladder
- Tendi's three-rung help system: a nudge, then a strategy, then a similar worked example.
- Huddle
- A short weekly family check-in, about 10 minutes, where you talk about the week's work together.
- Lane
- One of the eight subject areas a mission can live in, like STEM or Cultural Arts.
- Mission
- A short learning quest, usually 20-40 minutes, built around one hook-learn-do-stretch-wrap sequence.
- Mix
- The BPM ingredient that tracks whether learning is balanced across lanes instead of stuck in just one.
- Moments
- The BPM ingredient that tracks whether weekly huddles are happening.
- On Beat
- The streak state for showing up regularly — miss a day here or there and grace days keep it alive.
- Portfolio & Record
- The dashboard tab that collects evidence, sealed albums, and a printable record of your kid's work.
- Progress
- The BPM ingredient that tracks how much of the current sprint has actually been completed.
- Seal
- The step that finishes and locks an album; only a parent can undo it.
- Socratic Mode
- A back-and-forth with Tendi where your kid argues a side for up to three rounds, then gives a final take.
- Sprint
- A 1-2 week learning stretch built around a theme, like "Ancient Rome."
- Student Mode
- Your kid's own view inside your account, with your parent tools hidden — not a separate login.
- Tendi
- The AI study partner that asks questions and gives hints, but never hands over answers.
- Today's Set
- The 2-3 small things the app picks for your kid to do each day on the Today tab.
- Track
- The mixtape word for a mission once it's placed on your kid's board or added to an album.
- Volume
- A level, from Vol. 1 to Vol. 10, that goes up as XP adds up.
- XP
- Points earned for finishing missions, which fill up a Volume bar toward the next level.
