The study nobody covered: isolation is the variable, not the method

Last fall, a research team at the University of Washington published findings that should have reframed the entire public conversation about homeschooling. Homeschool students from under-resourced communities demonstrated stronger self-directed learning skills than their traditionally schooled peers -- but only when their home learning included regular, structured community interaction. When that community element was absent, the outcomes flipped.

The method was not the determining factor. The isolation was. This matters enormously for how we talk about what makes home learning work -- and what makes it fail. The intervention is not go back to school. Its build the community. Thats exactly what organizations like SEAT Squad are designed to do -- and why the community infrastructure around home learning is just as important as the curriculum inside it.
